If you suspect one of your friends, colleagues or loved ones has fallen victim to domestic violence sometimes it can be hard to be sure. Here are some things to look out for:
- Isolation from friends and family. (Abusers will isolate victims from their support systems and anyone they think might try to help the victim or cause problems in the future.
- Constant checking of emails, texts and other forms of communication. This is the perfect way to control all contact with anyone who might stop the abuse.
- Pressuring for sex. This is another tactic used to completely control a victim and to convince them that it is a normal relationship.
- Mood swings
- Paranoia. This leads to wild accusations of cheating.
- Some common injuries include black eyes, busted lips, red or purple marks on the neck, and sprained wrists.
- Complete control in a relationship.
- A meek timid partner that progressively gets more and more afraid to speak up.
These behaviors and hints should lead you to the conclusion that that person does or does not need help. If someone needs help please do what is safest in that situation and best for the victims health.
